Interview part 2 - Hayley Warnham
Do you think there is a crossover between graphic design and illustration?
What are your thoughts on that applying to book covers?
"Definitely. My background is purely illustration and I now work in design combining the two.
I learned all my design knowledge on the job as a junior, but having that illustration background takes it away from having a formulaic graphic design mind and allows for some experimentation."

Do you keep a consistent style when you illustrate/design book covers for different books?
"The style of the cover is dependent on the book, so my approach varies dramatically.
Sometimes it calls for an illustrated approach, sometimes a photographic approach or even typographic. That’s what I love about this job, it’s different all the time."

Do you illustrate/design book covers for different genres of books? If so, do you change your style?
"I tend to design book covers for adult fiction and non-fiction books day to day. Although recently I’ve dipped into Young Adult which requires a different approach entirely."

For a task in Professional Practice, we had to create a page that responds to the research we did on our topic. I chose to do a poster that responds to this interview I did with Hayley Warnham. I decided to create a poster that features quotes from this interview. Here was the visual progress:
